Leonard Barry – Pipes -
Originally from Kilmoyley in North Kerry, Leonard is well known among his peers in the Irish music scene as one of the leading
exponents of the Uilleann Pipes. Having started the tin whistle at the age of nine it was not until the age of fifteen that Leonard
discovered the Pipes upon hearing his uncle’s recordings of Johnny Doran. There started a musical journey, which has taken
Leonard to many parts of the world. Starting in Tralee Co. Kerry under the guidance of Dave Hegarty, Leonard learnt his trade as a
piper. Being from Kerry the pipes were not the only influence on Leonard as visits to many sessions in West Kerry, Sliabh Luachra
and much time spent in the Múscraí Gaeltacht, meant various influences from outside the piping genre.
recorded a solo album in 2002 entitled Mind the Pipes, which was released to critical acclaim - The Irish Times included
it in the Top Ten albums of that year.
