Norm Wheeler
When Norm Wheeler first played Dixieland cornet in the Tiger Six in Shelby, Michigan, he was only 15 and his parents had to drive him to gigs. He has been performing professionally for 40 years. Now he plays around NW Lower Michigan with the Jazz North 7, The Wild Sullys, Goodboy!, The Turtlenecks, and Luunappi. Norm recently performed with Nelson Lunding and Caldo Antigua at the 18th annual Guatemala Jazz Festival. Norm is also a spoken word artist who has hosted the Beach Bards Bonfire, a By Heart venue for poems, stories, and songs on the shore of Lake Michigan, for 30 years.
